COTTAGE LIFE WITH ROSIE LOUISE

Ease into the new year with fresh inspiration from Rosie Louise, content creator, private chef and recipe developer allowing us a glimpse into her quaint cottage life. Guided by the seasons, countryside living has transformed her life, not only in the kitchen.

Why do you choose to live cottage life, over city life?

We moved out of London at the end of the pandemic (that classic cliche) because neither of us needed to be there more than 1 or 2 days a week anymore, and we realised our dream of moving out could come sooner than we thought. I found London life very overwhelming. Stressful, full-on, exhausting - whereas moving to the countryside has truly changed everything. I’m so much more aware of the seasons and of seasonality of produce, there’s so much space and of course, nature is on our doorstep. It’s also so much cheaper! And on a practical level, there’s space for a bigger kitchen and we even have a teeny cottage garden where I can grow bits to cook with.

You're a private chef, what are you cooking at the moment?

Today I’m doing a three-tier berry cake for a hen do at the weekend! I love baking - even when it’s for work, it’s so therapeutic and there’s something so lovely about measuring things perfectly and watching the chemistry happen.

I’m also recipe-testing an avocado, edamame and coriander salad for a client today, which is a nice contrast.

What do you love most about Falcon in and around your kitchen?

Falcon Enamelware is just iconic, but more than that, it’s so functional. I love beautiful, antique-type homewares but most of the time, you can’t really do a whole lot of cooking with them and they are more for the finished product. Falcon is the best of both: it’s so chic to look at, but it really works. My oven tins have been used multiple times a week, for many, many years now, and they still look stunning and I regularly feature them if I’m shooting a recipe.

Do you have a particular favourite Falcon product?

I absolutely love the 3 pint jugs, especially in the pastel colours. We used a few of them at our wedding for elderflower cordial and they were perfect the next day for the excess of wedding flowers! They looked absolutely perfect.

Are there any local companies you'd like to shoutabout? Where do you usually eat, drink, and source ingredients in your local area?

Somerset and Wiltshire are brimming with absolutely wonderful food and drink companies. Where I live in Bradford on Avon, we have a new bakery - Pipit - as well as a local butcher, sustainable/ re-fillable grocery and a little fruit and veg shop as well. The local coffee shop stocks beautiful flowers from close-by, so honestly we are so spoilt for choice and it’s easy to source great ingredients locally.

Other local favourites include Iford Cider - the BEST cider - Rye Bakery or Landrace Bakery for the most delicious bread, Westcombe Dairy for incredible cheese and I have recently discovered Harth Chocolate, which is local, too.
