WILDSCAPES : NORFOLK

Set among the evolving landscape of the Wendling Beck project, Wildscapes offers a slower way of seeing. Through thoughtful stays, guided walks and hands-on experiences, Laura and Tom invite people to reconnect with the natural world, witnessing restoration in motion, and discovering the quiet beauty of landscapes returning gently back to life.

Can you introduce yourselves and explain what you do at Wildscapes?

We are Laura and Tom, the tea behind Wildscapes Norfolk. We are passionate about connecting people with nature and helping them to experience the incredible wildlife on our door step. From guided walks and hands-on courses to immersive stays in our cabins, we hope to create opportunities for people to slow down, explore, and really see the natural world around them.

The cabins are situated on the Wendling Beck Project, where we restore and enhance local waterways and habitats. This project allows us to support biodiversity, improve the health of the landscape, and the cabins give visitors a chance to see conservation in action.

What changes have you already witnessed in the landscape - whether in biodiversity, soil health, or wildlife return that felt especially meaningful?

One of the most powerful shifts has been how quickly the land begins to respond once you step back and let nature lead. Areas that were once intensive arable fields are already transforming into a mosaic of wetlands, meadows and woodland, with habitats starting to reconnect across the landscape.

What feels especially meaningful is the return of wildlife as those habitats establish. Species like egrets are thriving in our wetland, reflecting improving water quality and richer feeding grounds.

There’s also something profound in the quieter changes: wildflower meadows developing from locally collected seed, soils beginning to recover, and water being held more naturally across the land. Together, these shifts signal not just isolated gains, but the early stages of a functioning, connected ecosystem returning—something that simply wasn’t possible under the previous farming system.

What do you hope people feel or understand differently about the natural world after spending time with you?

We hope people leave with a deeper sense of connection to the natural world. We hope people understand that nature isn’t something distant or separate, it’s alive, dynamic, and linked to our daily lives.

Through hands-on experiences, guided exploration, and simply observing the beauty of Norfolk’s landscapes and wildlife, we aim to inspire curiosity, respect, and a sense of stewardship. Our hope is that visitors not only enjoy their time here but also carry forward a lasting awareness of how small actions can make a big difference in protecting and sustaining our natural environment.

Looking ahead 10–20 years, what does success look like for Wildscapes Norfolk - ecologically, culturally, and for you as a family?

Success for Wildscapes Norfolk, 10–20 years from now, feels less like a finished project and more like a place that’s come back to life. Ecologically, it’s land that hums with diversity—heathy waters, rich soils, and wildlife that isn’t just passing through but truly at home again. Culturally, it’s somewhere people feel connected to—a quiet example that change is possible, that nature can return if given the chance. And for us as a family, success is that it’s added something deep and lasting to our lives: a shared purpose, a sense of grounding, and the knowledge that we’ve helped create something that will outlive us.
