What draws you to Outdoor Cooking?
For me, it’s the simplicity and the connection it brings. Cooking outside forces you to slow down and be present; it strips things back to basics and removes a lot of the unnecessary stuff you associate with conventional cooking. You're not rushing between emails or cramming in meals; you're actually experiencing the process of cooking and eating in a more meaningful way.
There’s something really special about lighting a fire, being surrounded by nature, and sharing food with others in that setting. It makes everything taste better, feel more intentional, and honestly; it just reminds me why I love food in the first place. It’s not about perfection; it’s about the experience.
I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside, surrounded by some of the most stunning landscapes in the country, as well as incredible seasonal produce. Which makes the experience of cooking outside even more enjoyable.
Tell us about Field Blends. How do your products help to elevate the experience of cooking outdoors?
Field Blends is all about making outdoor cooking more accessible, more exciting, and way more flavourful. Our blends are designed to be simple, versatile, and packed with character, all within a plastic free tin. So whether you're cooking over a campfire, a BBQ, or a stove in the middle of nowhere, you’ve got something that instantly lifts the meal.
It’s not about overcomplicating things, it’s about giving people the confidence to cook outdoors and make food that feels a bit special. The blends remove the need to pack up the whole spice rack, so you can focus on the experience: the fire, the people, the views. It turns a basic bacon sandwich or grilled veg into something memorable, and that’s the magic we’re aiming for.
We have recently launched our latest blend ‘Smokey Peach & Jalapeno’, which is ideal for a bit of summer heat this bbq season.
What advice do you have for someone looking to get started cooking outdoors?
Start simple and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. It’s all just a bit of fun. Learning how to cook outside or on the grill, is as much about learning how to manage your fire or heat source, as it is about the cooking techniques themselves. So the more time practicing the better.
I would always recommend using good quality, sustainable fuel sources to avoid any harmful chemicals in your food. Consider your fuel, whether it be wood or charcoal, as an ingredient in the smokey flavour you are looking to create, the same way you would with the produce you are cooking. Get excited about quality and try to be conscious with your choices.
Food outdoors is an experience, so take the pressure off and give yourself plenty of time to just unwind and sink into the warmth of the fireside. It all adds to the enjoyment of the final dish.
How do Falcon products make cooking outdoors easier?
I love how easy it is to just pack up my falcon gear and take it with me; whether that be to the campsite, on a weekend away or even just out into the garden. Enamelware is so lightweight, durable and versatile that it's an amazing fit for outdoor cooking without the risk of anything breaking. When I’m not out and about, the look and feel of Falcon also really creates a nostalgic outdoor aesthetic within our kitchen that I just adore.
Are there any Falcon products in particular that you are loving right now?
I’ve been doing a lot of hosting recently, so my Oval Serving Plate has been getting a lot of use. It’s such a beautiful shape to create a centrepiece on the table when serving up a good bbq spread outside.
Are there any outdoor destinations you are hoping to cook in this Summer?
I am sure I will be hitting the campsite a lot this summer. I live on the edge of the Peak District so love to hop in the car after work and head out to the likes of Hathersage and Edale to enjoy a dinner around the campfire. The Lakes and Highlands are also high on the list of places I am hoping to explore and I am sure my Falcon gear will be coming with me.
