FOLC AND THE JOY OF TOGETHERNESS

Launching a Rosé brand in the middle of lockdown might have seemed bold - but for Folc, it was the perfect moment. Founders Elisha and Tom had been plotting since 2019 to put English rosé on the map, and if the world was going to pause, they decided to pour something worth celebrating.

Folc launched during lockdown - what inspired you to start a rosé brand at such a wild time?

Honestly? We'd been plotting since 2019 to put English rosé on the map and show the world just how amazing it is. Then lockdown hit and everyone was stuck indoors with nothing but questionable sourdough starters, banana bread and Zoom quizzes. We thought, "Folc it, why not launch now?" While the French were probably sipping their precious Provence rosé in perfectly manicured vineyards, we were busy proving you can make world-class rosé right here in England. We were obsessed with creating a rosé that was dry, fresh and undeniably delicious - a wine to rival (and even exceed) its Provençal cousins. Turns out, launching during a pandemic when people desperately needed joy in a glass wasn't so wild after all.

Your bottles are beautiful and eco-friendly - why was sustainability so important to you from the start?

Because we're not just rebelling against boring wine traditions - we're rebelling against the idea that good wine can't be good for the planet too. We work with local, independent, family-owned vineyards across Kent, Suffolk, Sussex and other places in South East of England, because we believe in supporting proper folk doing proper work. Why ship grapes halfway around the world when we've got some of the world's most exciting wine region right on our doorstep? It's not just about being green - it's about being smart, supporting our community, and giving two fingers to the notion that English wine isn't worth the eco-effort.

What makes your rosé taste unique?

We've got the elegance of the French but with proper English character that doesn't need to apologise for itself.

Our Still Rosé: This beauty is "crisper, fresher, brighter" than anything Provence is whispering about. It's delicate pale pink with aromas of red apple, fresh raspberry and floral notes, bursting with succulent red berry fruit, bright acidity and a crisp, dry floral finish. We blend seven grape varieties with each grape doing its bit to create something the establishment didn't see coming. It's perfectly balanced for yacht owners and pedalo renters alike.

Our Sparkling Rosé: Now this is where we really show off. "Elegant, complex, refined" - three words the French thought they had trademarked. Enticing aromatics of cherry pip, dried flowers, and scones with strawberry jam, with fresh strawberry and raspberry notes and delicate rose petal characters alongside subtle brioche undertones from nearly two years on lees. It has been made with the traditional three grape varieties, 100% Kent fruit, hand-harvested and aged 23 months on lees. The result? Fine bubbles that carry red apple and bright acidity through to a distinctive blood orange finish.

Both wines prove that English terroir doesn't just compete with the continent - it leaves it wondering what just happened.

'Folc' means community, what does that mean to you and how does that shape the brand?

Folc means friends, family, community. We are all for sharing, and supporting good local folk doing good work. But we're not your typical wine community - we're the anti-establishment, rule-breaking bunch. We don't care if you drink our rosé out of crystal or a tumbler, with oysters or cheese and onion crisps. Community to us means bringing people together over something genuinely good, without all the stuffy wine snobbery. We're building a community of people who appreciate quality but aren't afraid to say "Folc it" to outdated traditions.

What is your favourite thing about your Falcon Enamelware and how does it align with Folc?

What we love about Falcon is that they've got proper heritage - decades of British craftsmanship - but they're not stuck in the past like some dusty museum piece. They've taken that rich history and made it completely relevant for today.

While we might not have Falcon's decades of history (we're still at the point we are proving English rosé deserves respect), we share that same forward-thinking spirit.

Both our brands are built to last, but more importantly, we're both brilliant for hosting. There's something magical about serving our English rosé in Falcon's beautiful, durable pieces - whether it's a spontaneous garden party or a proper dinner. And here's a genius move - the fruit bowl makes the perfect ice bucket for chilling our bottles. Who needs a fancy wine cooler when you've got British design ingenuity? The enamelware won't chip when someone inevitably drops it (because let's be honest, good wine leads to animated conversations), and our rosé tastes good no matter what you drink it from.

We're both British brands that believe in bringing people together over quality that doesn't need to shout about itself. Folc means friends, family, community - and Falcon gives us the perfect vessels to make that happen, meal after meal, gathering after gathering. Folc it, why not celebrate proper British craftsmanship with proper British wine?
